Thursday 18th May - Friday 1st September

Explore the 165-year history of Huddersfield institution Standard Fireworks, as it grew from a small local enterprise into an international industry leader. Discover the many celebrations and folk traditions which have brought communities together around firework displays through the decades. Consider how Standard chose to market its fireworks to create popular appeal, and encourage generations of people to love fireworks.

This exhibition was produced by undergraduate students at the University of Huddersfield, mentored by our Heritage Manager, as part of a public history module. This is part of our Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the university, which helps us take advantage of the latest academic research, and gives students the opportunity to learn real-world skills.
